The artist I chose to write about is Mark Grotjahn. He was born in 1968 in Pasadena,California. He is an American painter, living and working in Los Angeles. He received his MFA from the University of California, Berkeley, and his BFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is best known for abstract work and bold geometric paintings. I chose to write about him because his artwork , " Untitled (three-tiered perspective)" , really popped out at me and caught my interest.

Racial stereotyping- is a generalized representation of an ethnic group, composed of what are thought to be typical characteristics of members of the group. This picture is clearly an example of racial stereotyping. This picture shows how people view African-American people in general. In this picture it shows a caucasian man talking about America's present president Barack Obama, and since he's black, the man thinks that he will abandon his duties aka America and leave it to be run by some other authority who may not be the best for America. Basically this man thinks that all African-American men abandon their children and leave them to be raised by their mothers and stepfathers, which may not be the best upbringing for a child. I chose this this picture and the topic racial stereotyping because as an African-American I have experienced the racial stereotyping first-hand and know that it is not accurate and that it really affects people. Because when people begin to racial stereotype it never occurs to them that maybe every person is not like, what they believe they are. I really want America and people in general to see that racial stereotyping hurts people and can stick with that ethnic group for a very long time.

This artwork is an example of postmodern art. This artwork was created by Barbara Kruger. In this piece of art I think she is trying to say that in this modern age, women like to shop and spend a lot of money. so she's saying that if a woman shops, it means that she exists. Barbara included a lot of visual strategies such as imagery and text, and appropriation. It includes appropriation because Barbara basically took the phrase " I think, therefore I am",changed it around and put it in her own words and style. It includes imagery and text because its an image with a text in it,and im describing it.

I really liked all the things we did and created in art. My favorite one was when we did the accordion book, even though i didn't really have fun creatingt the poem. I also really like the free sketches we get to draw in our sketchbook. Another really terrific thing is when we get to put up posts on our art blog. It's really cool and fun. I really learned a lot about art this first unit. I learned about the elements of art and priciples of design which was really awesome. I would have to say this first unit was a new experience for me and I really liked and I can't wait to find out what we do in the next unit.

I learned a lot about the process of bookmaking. One thing I learned was that making a book takes time and effort. One thing I found enjoyable about making a book was that I get to create and design it to look anyway i want it to. One thing that I found challenging about making a book was that you had to add a lot of elements and principles, and some of them I didn't know how to include it in my book. If I made another book I would make something that I can include the elements and the principles in it easily but still have some of my creative and colorful spark in it.
I picked this drawing because I think it's unique and creative. It shows a pattern, which is making a heart with like red strings. I also see texture,it looks like it will feel smooth but a little scratchy. There's a lot of color. I also seen emphasis and contrast. These are all the reasons i picked this handmade book image.

This is the abstract drawing that I chose. In this drawing i see alot of color, lines, and shapes. I see alot of texture and 3d things. My knowledge of this abstract drawing is that it haves some elements in it. Like color, texture, and shapes. My understanding of this was that whoever drew this was trying to make his/her drawing stand out and wanted to add alot of different things to it to make it abstract, unique, and creative.

blog post #4
I picked this artwork because it looks very colorful and fun. The artist that drew this painting i think was trying to add the elements color and texture. I also think this artist was trying to add the principles pattern and rhythm. I think the artist chose elements color and value because there are alot of colors in this painting and the painting looks like it can be texture because you can almost look and see how it would feel. I think the artist chose the principles patter and rhythm because you can see a patter in this artwork because theres alot of wavy lines and rhythm is because its all the same kind of lines and it looks like its going together.

Bloom's Taxomy Art
Synthesis: I do not know how i would render the subject different.
Analysis: I think the Artist is trying to say through art is how "The Last Supper" took place. where Jesus sat and where the 12 disciples sat. This is when jesus anounced one of his disciples would betray him. and everybody starts to wonder who.
Application: Why would he have this dinner if he knew who was going to betray him?
Understanding: The last supper that jesus will have on earth with his disciples.
Knowledge: The painting is very well colored, organized, and easy to understand or figure out.

Race and Gender criticism
Some people think that women and people of color artwork does not matter more than a white man's artwork. Well I'm not one of those people. I never thought there would be discrimination against artwork but i guess i was wrong. I think that all artwork whether its from a man or woman, or from a person that's not white should be treated equal. Every artist should be able to express there art freely and get it displayed if they want it to instead of them getting put down or turned away just because they are a woman or a person of color. Every artist artwork should be displayed freely and who ever has a problem with it should keep it to their self. This is my opinion on this subject and I'm sticking with it.
Do you think that it really matters if a woman or man makes an artwork?
Do you think that people of different ethnicity's should have the chance to display there art and not be turned away?

My First Art Experience
My first art experience was when i went to a museum with my class in elementry. There i saw alot of wall paintings from ancient Egypt when there was pharaohs. I thought it was really fascinating and wanted to learn more about it. over the school years in almost every grade i learned about egypt and egyptians which increased my fascination. When i was in 7th grade i got the chance to create something really unique and it had something to do with the egyptian culture. I got the chance to make a egyptian sculpture of my name. I had to carve the egyptian letters of my name into a square, stone like item. Then i got to put a big egyptian symbol of an animal in the middle i put a eagle. It turned out really well and i got to keep it so it was really cool.
